The Facts: Following up on a previous item. ... The effort to replace Tony Gonzalez continues in Atlanta as the Falcons announce they have signed Tamme.
Diehards Line:
The 30-year-old tight end had 86 receptions over a three-year run with the Broncos. The pass-catching tight end caught just 14 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns in 2014 as his playing time was usurped over the past two seasons by the younger, more athletic Julius Thomas. The Falcons have been searching for a replacement for Gonzalez, a future Hall of Famer, since his retirement in 2013. As NFL.com notes, Tamme provides a veteran safety valve for Matt Ryan and is an upgrade on young, underachieving Levine Toilolo from a reliability standpoint, but he isn't the red zone threat the Falcons have been missing. It's a position Atlanta could still look to fill through the draft.
