The Facts: Add Fells to the list of returning Giants. The veteran tight end agreed Wednesday to return on a one-year deal. Fells, who has played for five teams in nine seasons, will sign a one-year deal worth $870,000 with $80K guaranteed. He chose to remain with the Giants despite other similar offers.
Diehards Line:Fells, 31, is coming off a solid first season with the Giants. He caught 16 passes for 188 yards and four touchdowns in 2014 after a season out of the league. He was also the team's best blocking tight end and served as a quality veteran mentor for Larry Donnell and Adrien Robinson. As Star-Ledger staffer Jordan Raanan notes, bringing Fells back fills a need. Donnell finished with the fifth-worst run-blocking grade among tight ends, according to Pro Football Focus. Fells ranked 10th in that category and caught all 16 catchable passes in his direction. He corralled an impressive 16 of the 20 passes in his direction in 2014.
