The Facts: The New Orleans Saints have signed Hightower to a reserve/future contract, a league source told the Times-Picayune.
Diehards Line:
Hightower hasn't played in the NFL since tearing his ACL in 2011 with the Washington Redskins. Hightower played at Richmond and was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He rushed for 736 yards and scored five touchdowns in his best season for the Cardinals in 2010. Reserve/future contracts, which are usually one or two years in length, allow teams to fill out the training camp roster while preventing other clubs from poaching promising players.
