The Facts: Rice has taken a big step closer to a possible return to the NFL. Rice won his appeal and has had his indefinite suspension from the league overturned. Rice is immediately eligible to return by winning his appeal.
Diehards Line:
Rice had filed the appeal to overturn the indefinite suspension handed down by the NFL at the beginning of the season after video footage surfaced of him punching his then-fiancee in Atlantic City. The decision follows a two-day appeal hearing -- and hours of testimony -- that took place earlier this month in New York. The basis of the running back's argument, was that the former Ravens player was subjected to double jeopardy when the league indefinitely suspended him. Rice was originally banned for two games after video footage surfaced of him punching his then-fiancée in Atlantic City. Rice believes that the NFL received no new information when the video became public -- and that Commissioner Roger Goodell knew all the details at the time of the original decision. The Ravens released Rice on Sept. 8 after the video emerged. He also has filed a grievance against the Ravens for wrongful termination of his contract. The next step would be finding a team interested in signing him. There's no guarantee that will happen.
