The Facts: The Lions are working out kickers on Tuesday, but they didn’t wait to see what’s out there before deciding that Alex Henery was no longer the right man for the job. HC Jim Caldwell announced at his Monday press conference that the team has released Henery.
Diehards Line:
The move comes as no surprise even if the Lions haven’t found his replacement yet. Henery missed field goals from 44, 47 and 50 yards in the second half of Sunday’s 17-14 loss to the Bills and the final margin of victory makes it clear just how painful all of those misses were to the Lions’ cause. Henery also missed a field goal in Week 4, his first game with the team after he was signed to replace the equally inaccurate Nate Freese. The names of the players working out for the Lions aren’t known, but Jay Feely is lobbying for the job on Twitter and Matt Prater was released by Denver last week.
