The Facts: The Giants didn't make a splash at the tight end position this offseason, but GM Jerry Reese has found plenty of success with tight ends who aren't exactly household names coming out of college. He's working with a platoon of Daniel Fells, Xavier Grimble, Larry Donnell, Adrien Robinson and Kellen Davis this offseason. The coaching staff alternated them throughout the spring with no one tight end taking a majority of the reps. Needless to say, Reese didn't come out of the mini-camp with an odds-on starter. "I think the jury is still out on who the No. 1 tight end is, I think it'll probably be tight end by committee," he said.
Diehards Line:
Donnell and Robinson played a combined 108 snaps last season (107 for Donnell, as Robinson was injured on his first active play against Detroit) but appear to have shaken any health concerns in the preseason. Dustin Keller and Jermichael Finley remain available although both are recovering from serious injuries. Reese hinted in that a signing was possible, but also said that Donnell and Robinson in tandem could be "dynamic. ..." Indeed, the Star-Ledger reports the Giants planned on Donnell and Robinson together in a few packages that could highlight their size and strength before Robinson was hurt last year. Now, it seems, they have that option again so long as Robinson can stay healthy.
