The Facts: According to Times-Union staffer Tania Ganguli, very preliminary discussions have begun about Scobee's contract and both sides want a long-term deal reached.
Diehards Line:Per Ganguli, Scobee is absolutely one of the team's top priorities. The franchise tag is an option for Scobee and the Jaguars are not planning to consider using it on any of their other players. The kicker tag number is expected to be around $2.65 million. Scobee's 92 percent success rate on field goal attempts ranked him fourth in the 2011 regular season and that was with an average distance of 39.5. Pro Football Focus ranks Scobee as the 10th best kicker in the NFL, examining both kickoff and field goal kicking stats. His average distance on kickoffs was longer than the nine kickers ranked ahead of him and his field goal precentage was higher than theirs as well. Two kickers ranked higher than Scobee, Chicago's Robbie Gould and Tennessee's Rob Bironas, had a higher field goal percentage from 50 or more yards than Scobee. Scobee made five of six from 50 or more yards, Bironas made six of seven and Gould made six of six.
