The Facts: According to Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun, Taylor said Monday that he considers himself "basically retired" from football, although he has not yet filed official retirement papers with the NFL.
Diehards Line:Taylor last played for the New England Patriots in 2010 but is currently a free agent. And while he told the Florida Times-Union last month that he felt he had two more seasons left in him, Taylor also admitted to being conflicted about playing further because he was concerned that more wear and tear on his body could affect his life after football. Now it appears he's less conflicted. It seems wise. The 35-year-old Taylor has missed 19 of a possible 32 regular season games over the past two years. The veteran has had an excellent career. His 2,534 carries to rank 21st on the all-time list and his 11,695 rushing yards are 15th all time. Taylor's career 4.62 YPC average might be his most impressive statistic. ... Stay tuned. We'll keep an eye out for more on this one -- specifically if and when Taylor files those official retirement papers.
