The Facts: A report surfaced after the Bears NFC Championship loss that the team would cut ties with Taylor. “I don’t know why that was reported,” Bears GM Jerry Angelo told Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune. “Is that to say he’s a lock to be on this football team in 2011? Very few players are a lock.”
Diehards Line:The Bears guaranteed Taylor $7 million last season and he wound up averaging 2.38 yards-per-carry. But as PFT notes, there’s not much point in dumping him now with a low base salary scheduled for 2011. Even though the 31-year old Taylor appeared to get old all of the sudden, there would be a big drop-off to Garrett Wolfe and Kahlil Bell. So it appears Taylor will get a chance to prove he can still get it done.
