The Facts: The competition at the number three WR spot between third-round pick Jordan Shipley and Andre Caldwell has begun. The early expectations are for Shipley to become that inside receiver and possession-type receiver that was missing last year with the departure of T.J. Houshmandzadeh.
Diehards Line:Still, as Enquirer staffer Joe Reedy suggests, expecting anyone to come in and fill Houshmandzadeh's shoes without any dropoff is a little unrealistic -- Carson Palmer said last week that no one performs at that role better than Houshmandzadeh. It's worth noting, however, that some scouts have suggested Shipley is the next Wes Welker. While we're not ready to go that far without seeing more tangible evidence on the practice field, that certainly makes Shipley worth watching.
