Stokley Not Ready; Dungy Wants More From Wayne...
As reported by Colts.com staff writer John Oehser, Brandon Stokley missed two preseason games before playing in the final two. He has yet to play in the regular season.

He may have to wait at least another week.

Stokley, a veteran wide receiver who signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Colts this past off-season, likely will be out for a second consecutive game this week, head coach Tony Dungy said Thursday. Stokley sustained a hamstring injury in the team’s final preseason game on August 29.

"It doesn’t look like he’ll be ready," Dungy said as the Colts prepared to play the Titans.

Troy Walters will come off the bench in three-receiver sets with Stokley sidelined.

According to Pro Football Weekly, the day the Colts parted with veteran receiver Qadry Ismail, they were stating their confidence and trust in third-year man Reggie Wayne.

But Dungy, normally silent with his motivation and criticism, said he still needs to see Wayne prove his worth by becoming more consistent.

The Colts see Wayne as a potential-packed player because of his quickness and natural athleticism, but he does not trust his hands enough, according to one AFC South scout.

"He can get open; that’s not the problem," the scout told PFW. "He catches only about two out of three balls Peyton [Manning] throws him. You aren’t going to make it in this league with that ratio. He’s going to have a hard time improving in game situations because Peyton is not going his way on third-down or goal-line situations. He’s not there yet."

Reserve halfback James Mungro, after missing the opener, should be ready to play Sunday, Dungy said. Dominic Rhodes is still working on a limited basis and isn't ready to return to action.

Also Thursday, third-team quarterback Cory Sauter practiced for a second consecutive day after signing Tuesday. Sauter, who played with the Colts through the first half of last season, was released midway through the season and signed with the Chicago Bears.

The Colts released Sauter last season with the idea of creating a roster spot because of an injury at another position. They had hoped to re-sign him, but the Bears claimed him off waivers.

"It wasn’t intended for me to leave last year, so this is a great opportunity for me to get back and kind of finish what I was trying to accomplish," Sauter said.
