Jets Confirm Harvin Trade; Welcome Versatile, Dynamic Threat
Following up on the ongoing story. ... The Jets confirmed today that they have completed the trade with the Seahawks that brings Percy Harvin, the runner/receiver/return who has spent a year and a half in Seattle, to New York.

“Percy is a versatile, dynamic player who has been productive on offense and special teams,” said Jets GM John Idzik. “We’re excited about adding him to the Jets.”

The Jets described the compensation as an “undisclosed” draft pick. It is believed that the pick will be in the second, third or fourth round of next year’s NFL draft, depending on Harvin’s playing time and statistics for the rest of this season.

According to Profootballtalk.com, it's worth noting Harvin is described as a wide receiver and kick returner in the Jets’ announcement, and the team figures to use him in both roles. The Jets’ offense and special teams both need playmakers, and now they’ve got one.

As NFL.com notes, we already know what Rex Ryan thinks about Harvin.

Harvin's name came up in a mid-week news conference as the New York Jets prepared to face the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. Here's the back story:

In their season-opening loss to the Seahawks, the Packers struggled to contain Harvin. In addition to seven catches for 59 yards, he ran four times for 41 yards and gashed the Packers with the Jet Sweep. Because it's a copycat league, you had to wonder if the Jets would unleash the Jet Sweep against the Packers and perhaps use Chris Johnson or their fastest receiver, Saalim Hakim.

"We've got some pretty good speed," Ryan said at the time. "Chris Johnson can run -- there's no question about that. Mike Vick can run. We've got guys who can run.

"They kind of sprung that one on [the Packers] with Percy Harvin," Ryan continued. "He's an explosive guy. I don't know if it would be as explosive as it was with Percy Harvin. He's pretty special."

And so there you have it. Now Ryan can use the real Harvin in the Jet Sweep, if he so desires.

By the way, the Jets did run the play against the Packers with Johnson. It wasn't too successful.
