Here We Go Again; Britt Arrested For Suspicion Of DUI
Kenny Britt was taken into custody early Friday morning at Fort Campbell (Ky.) military base on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Bob Jenkins, director of public affairs at Fort Campbell, told Nashville Tennessean staffer Jim Wyatt that Britt was attempting to enter the base at approximately 3:30 a.m. through Gate 4.

He was given a field sobriety test, and failed, according to Jenkins.

“The incident is under investigation, and further comments are inappropriate for us to make at this time,’’ Jenkins said. “We have contacted the Tennessee Titans and we ask that you direct further media inquiries through the Titans.”

The Titans on Friday morning released a statement: “We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering more facts.”

Wyatt reminded readers that Britt has been involved with eight incidents with the police since he was drafted in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

Britt, a first-round draft pick in 2009, was arrested multiple times last season, which prompted a meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Goodell opted not to suspend Britt, however, in part because the incidents took place during the NFL lockout.

This is the first known incident of Britt being involved with law enforcement during the offseason.

Britt has been rehabbing both his knees this offseason. After suffering a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee last September, Britt had a second procedure on the knee in May. Last month, Britt had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.

As ESPN.com's Paul Kuharsky pointed out this morning, he was already advising readers it will be hard to count on Britt being 100 percent this season based on all that and how long it takes most receivers to get all the way back from a knee reconstruction.

Now, because he’s involved in yet another incident requiring police attention, he could face a suspension under the NFL's personal-conduct policy.

I'll go ahead and suggest that prior to this incident (and also to a degree, the news of his most recent knee procedure), tilts the risk vs. reward equation in Britt's case even further to the risky sides. Given his current seventh-round ADP, however, it's still not completely out of whack.

Remember: Britt can put up big numbers in short order.

In the two and a half games before tearing his ACL and MCL last year, Britt pulled in 17 catches for 289 yards and three touchdowns.

And one could argue that given his knee issues -- or at least the possibility it will take him some time to get up to speed, a suspension could be moot when weighed against Britt's ability to contribute once he gets back to work.

That being the case, I'm not moving him in my current rankings just yet. I will also stress that drafting him before we get resolution on the DUI is not for the risk averse. But is that really a huge change from before the DUI?

Stay tuned. ... I'll obviously be following up on Britt's status as developments warrant.

Meanwhile, Kuharsky advised readers that rookie first-rounder Kendall Wright becomes more and more important to the Titans

As a third receiver, Wright might have gotten favorable matchups. As a second to Nate Washington, that won’t be the case nearly as much. And Damian Williams will be in line to be the third wideout if and when Britt is missing.

Adjust your rankings accordingly.
