Player Capsule:
Fresh off of his new contract, Gore ran for a career-high 1,211 yards. Now 29, he's not the only dog in the hunt with the Niners, who drafted LaMichael James 61st overall and signed bruiser Brandon Jacobs as part of the offseason theme of adding explosiveness to the offense. The 49ers also signed Randy Moss and drafted Illinois WR A.J. Jenkins with field stretching in mind. Gore might be losing his grip on a dominant lead role in the offense with Jacobs, James and Kendall Hunter angling for carries behind him. He could be in his last season as a 275-carry back, but with more room to run and potential for more big plays all around, this isn't the time to leap off the Gore train.
