The Facts: Howard, who is recovering from an Achilles injury, is at Buccaneers training camp but not practicing. Meanwhile, TE Cameron Brate and WR Justin Watson were placed on the active/Physically Unable to Perform list when players reported and underwent physicals Saturday.
Diehards Line:
Watson is expected to miss four months after undergoing a knee procedure, according to an ESPN report. ... As ESPN's Mike Clay recently suggested, Rob Gronkowski gets the headlines, but it was Howard who paced the Buccaneers' tight end room in passing-game usage prior to a season-ending injury last season. Despite Gronkowski playing more snaps (212 to 125) and running more routes (87 to 58), Howard out-targeted the future Hall of Famer in three of four games together, totaling 19 to Gronkowski's 13. Howard's 11-146-2 receiving line lead to the 17th-most fantasy points among TEs, whereas Gronkowski's 9-88-0 line ranked 36th. Gronk was TE4 from that point on, but it's likely that the return of Howard will eat into Gronkowski's already-underwhelming target numbers. Howard has yet to complete a 16-game regular season in his career, missing at least two games all four years, but makes for an interesting deep sleeper.
