The Facts:
After a record-setting season, the Bears have agreed to terms with Santos on a $16 million, 5-year contract with a max value of $17.5 million.
Diehards Line:
According to Tribune staffer Brad Biggs, the final two years of deal are voidable so it's really a $9 million, 3-year deal with max value of $11 million. Santos took advantage of an opening created in August when a groin injury sidelined Eddy Pineiro, claimed the job and ran with it. Santos set a franchise record by connecting on 27 consecutive field goals last season, eclipsing the mark of 26 previously held by Robbie Gould. The decision to release Gould before the start of the 2016 season started the Bears down the path toward the kicker carousel. Now, the carousel has stopped.
