The Facts: Reed has an idea for how his team can improve an offseason that, to this point, hasn't inspired a whole lot of confidence that Washington will be a winning team for the third consecutive year in 2017. Asked Saturday what the Redskins need to do to get back to the playoffs, Reed started with his quarterback. "I think first of all, we got to bring Kirk back," Reed told SiriusXM NFL Radio of Kirk Cousins, who played last season under the franchise tag.
Diehards Line:
Reed continued: “We got to bring Kirk back. We got to bring two of our most valuable weapons back -- Pierre [Garcon] and [DeSean Jackson] -- for us to have a shot. So, I think we need to bring those guys back and add a couple more pieces on defense, and I think we’ll be right were we need to be.” As Post staffer Scott Allen notes, it’s unlikely that the Redskins will bring back both of their pending free agent wide receivers. Jackson said last week that he wants to remain in Washington but also that the Redskins’ front office “has a huge task in front of them.” As for Cousins, Reed praised his communication and competitiveness. No surprise there. With Cousins as the starter, Reed has 153 catches for 1,638 yards and 17 touchdowns over the past two seasons. The 26-year-old Reed, who signed a five-year, $48 million contract extension in May, also lobbied for the Redskins to sign Cousins during a visit to ESPN’s Bristol, Conn., headquarters last month.
