The Facts: It's now a highly competitive two-man race for the right to lead the Broncos on the field Sept. 8 against the Carolina Panthers. HC Gary Kubiak praised all three Denver quarterbacks' progress this offseason. But he made it clear that Sanchez and Trevor Siemian are battling for the No. 1 spot, with rookie Paxton Lynch as the solid No. 3 as offseason workouts conclude this week. "Trevor and Mark have looked each other in the eyes the whole offseason," Kubiak said. "When I sit there and watch them practice, I think they're right there banging on each other."
Diehards Line:
Kubiak said the Broncos’ coaching staff plans to have a meeting within the next few days to determine whether they’ll name a starting quarterback before they break for a five-week hiatus before training camp. Sanchez led the first team again Tuesday, as he has done for the last couple of weeks. Siemian ran the second team, and Lynch ran the third team. Kubiak said Lynch shined in the two-minute drill but struggled in regular offensive sets. Lynch admitted that he knows he’s behind Sanchez and Siemian, but he believes he’s making progress in every category and is confident he can catch up with more reps in the offense. ... As the Post suggested, consistency is the key for all three quarterbacks in determining who will win the Week 1 job. We'll be watching for more.
