The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ...If you're sick of hearing about Deflategate, NFLPA spokesman George Atallah has some bad news for you: The fight over Brady's four-game suspension is not over. "It seems like it won't end. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it doesn't seem like it's going to end any time soon if Tom decides he wants to pursue any further options," Atallah said on the Dan Patrick Show. "It's our obligation to fight that, and we've done that over the course of many, many, many years now."
Diehards Line:
Although Atallah didn’t say exactly what form the players’ union thinks the fight will take next, he does think the fight will continue. He also said that the only way to avoid a fight would be for an influential owner to broker a deal. Unfortunately, the owner Atallah thinks would ordinarily be in the best position to broker such a deal is New England’s Robert Kraft. Atallah said he doesn’t know whether Brady will start Week One, but he does know the union is serious about fighting for the players’ interests. “We are principled in our fight and we are going to continue to protect the CBA,” Atallah said. As PFT suggests, this fight may go on so long that Brady is ready to retire before the NFL can finally force him to serve that four-game suspension.
