The Facts: Osweiler is all about the Texans' playbook. As soon as he arrived in Houston from Denver, Osweiler got his playbook on an iPad, and he's been studying almost every day. "I love the game of football," Osweiler said during the Texans' offseason program. "Part of that is the studying aspect."
Diehards Line:
Osweiler continued: "As a quarterback in this league, I'm a firm believer that you need to know the playbook better than anybody. You need to know it better than the coordinator who has been in that system for years.
"The way you do that is by studying. As soon as I was able to get that iPad, I dove right into it. I know it can only go to noon here (Texans' facility), but each night I go home and sit in my office for hours and just soak in this playbook as much as I can and as quick as I can." After the Texans claimed Brandon Weeden on waivers from Dallas last year, the veteran quarterback said compared to the systems he played at Cleveland and Dallas, trying to learn the Texans' playbook was like trying to read Chinese backward. "It's not something you can do overnight or in a week," Osweiler said about the system. "It's a long process." So it's good to hear he's putting in the time now. We'll be watching for signs it's paying off in coming weeks.
