The Facts: GM John Elway, or staff personnel speaking on Elway's behalf, will meet the representatives of the team's own unrestricted free agent players this week during the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The most significant of these discussions is the Broncos plan to meet with Osweiler's agent.
Diehards Line:As of Monday morning, the Broncos had yet to open discussions with agent Jimmy Sexton about a contract extension for Osweiler, who everyone expects will be the team’s starting quarterback in 2016. As News9.com's Mike Klis notes, they've got to sign him first. The Broncos have not opened contract negotiations with Osweiler in part out of deference to current starting quarterback Peyton Manning, who is contemplating retirement. Manning must notify the Broncos of his intentions by March 8, as his $19 million salary for the 2016 season would become fully guaranteed on March 9. There is no 2016 scenario in which the Broncos pay $19 million to Manning.
