The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... The NFL's review of Manziel's police investigation in Texas -- including the possible assault of an ex-girlfriend early Saturday morning --"is ongoing,' NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told cleveland.com Monday.
Diehards Line:
It's the second time in two months that the NFL is investigating Manziel for a domestic incident. The first was after the Oct. 13 roadway ordeal with his longtime girlfriend Colleen Crowley. Manziel was not arrested by Avon, Ohio police for that incident, and the NFL cleared him of any wrongdoing despite the fact Crowley first told police that Manziel beat her and shoved her head into the glass of the car. Now, Manziel is being accused a second time of possibly assaulting a female. The Browns, who have declined comment, also had nothing further on Monday. The Browns can waive Manziel at 12:01 a.m. on Feb. 8, the day after the Super Bowl. It remains to be seen if they'll do that or hang on to him. They can also trade him beginning March 9th at 4 p.m. Browns Executive VP of Football operations Sashi Brown said recently that the Browns won't panic in making their decision on Manziel, but that was before this latest incident. He also told cleveland.com last week that Manziel must demonstrate that "football is the most important thing in his life.' As Plain Dealer staffer Mary Kay Cabot summed up: "At this point, he seems far from that."
