The Facts: Graham is a TE by title. By actuality, he’s been split out wide the majority of his snaps the last few seasons with the New Orleans Saints. Now that the Seahawks have his unique size and versatility after trading center Max Unger and their first-round draft choice this year, they are planning to use the 6-foot-7, 265-pound Graham all over the field, too -- beginning with the start of training camp on July 31. “Yeah, we do that with a lot of our guys. We like to formation and move guys around for different reasons, and Jimmy will be definitely in that mix,” OC Darrell Bevell said.
Diehards Line:
Bevell continued: “We really just want to just fit him in and kinda see exactly what we have. We’ve seen enough tape of him playing around the league, obviously with the Saints. So we kinda know what he can do a little bit. But we want to fit him in with our terminology, our schemes. ... There will be stuff here and there that will be specifically for him." That will be especially true near the goal line, where the Seahawks’ offense got tightest last year. Seattle was 20th in the league in touchdown percentage in the “red zone,” scoring TDs just 31 times in 60 trips (51.7 percent) inside the 20. It was 53.3 percent in 2013. Graham has 38 catches inside the red zone the last three seasons. No fewer than 28 of those (74 percent) have gone for touchdowns. Less than a month of OTAs and minicamp practices this spring hinted at how much the Seahawks plan on featuring Graham near and in the end zone in 2015. It’s the reason they traded their two-time Pro Bowl center and anchor of a shaky offensive line plus top pick in May’s draft, to isolate Graham inside and outside on defensive backs shorter than him by a half a foot or more, then have Russell Wilson at times just chuck it up in Graham’s direction. It'll be interesting to see how they follow up in training camp.
