The Facts: If the hype last spring around Ertz came prematurely, the Eagles haven’t shied away from making bold predictions this year for the TE’s third season. Veteran RB Darren Sproles, who’s been training with Ertz in San Diego during the offseason, became the latest to forecast greatness for his teammate. “He has great hands, man,” Sproles said Thursday. “His hands and his route running are just great, really. He’s about to be a superstar.”
Diehards Line:
As CSNPhilly.com's Geoff Mosher reminded readers, some predicted a breakout last season for Ertz, who caught 58 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns but played just 50 percent of the snaps because his blocking wasn’t good enough to push Brent Celek into a backup role. This year, it seems inevitable that Ertz will see more playing time and emerge into the league’s next upper-echelon tight end, someone mentioned in the same sentence as Rob Gronkowski, Jimmy Graham and Antonio Gates. We'll all be watching to see signs of that with our own eyes once training camp starts.
