The Facts: For a guy who has thrown all of 35 passes in the NFL, none of them in a high-leverage situation, there sure is an awful lot of buzz about Taylor. Now that the first week of organized team activities is complete, and Taylor shared first-team reps throughout the first four workouts with EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel just as HC Rex Ryan promised, maybe there's a reason. "He is an unknown, never played a whole lot in Baltimore," Ryan said. "I think the ability is hard to ignore, some of the things that he has."
Diehards Line:
When the Bills signed Taylor as an unrestricted free agent in March, barely a whisper of interest could be heard. Taylor looked to be just another guy to throw the ball during OTAs and training camp while the Bills figured out who would be their starting quarterback. Instead, even though there's no concrete evidence that he can actually be an NFL-caliber starter, D&C staffer Sal Maiorana reports that several people within the organization believe Taylor has a great chance to be the man under center on Sept. 13 when the Bills open against the Indianapolis Colts. One thing Taylor will certainly add to the offense, regardless of whether he starts or not, is a viable option on two-point attempts. But Taylor wants much more than that, which is why he came to Buffalo. Now it sounds like there's a chance that could come to pass.
