The Facts: Helu, 26, looks like a perfect fit for Oakland’s new up-tempo offense that will often feature a no-huddle approach. ESPN scout Matt Williamson thinks Helu can be one of the Raiders’ most productive offensive weapons even though it will be in a limited role.
Diehards Line:
Adding Helu was one of the more intriguing moves the Raiders made this offseason. NFL scouts love Helu because he is solid as a rusher and receiver out of the backfield. He was also very productive in a limited role with the Washington Redskins last season. Helu averaged 5.4 yards a carry on 40 attempts and 11.4 yards per catch on 42 receptions in 2014. The Raiders’ other current running backs are Latavius Murray and Trent Richardson. They could add a running back in the draft. Williamson think Helu can do what like new Giants back Shane Vereen did in New England. Vereen had a total of 148 touches last season. ... While may be unrealistic to think Helu will have a huge role for the Raiders, he should be able to make an impact in a specialized role.
