The Facts: Following up on the ongoing story. ... Gore’s post on social media prompted a discussion this week between the scheduled free-agent RB and GM Trent Baalke. “That’s why we talked. That’s the exact (reason),” Baalke said Wednesday at the NFL Scouting Combine. “We reached out. He reached out back. He wasn’t expecting it to take legs like it did. Nor were we. He didn’t have any intentions by it and he made that very clear in our conversations.”
Diehards Line:Baalke said the 49ers’ thinking has not changed since the week leading up to the final game of the season when Baalke said the team wants Gore back for his 11th NFL season. Gore is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career. “It’s at the same place it was the last time we talked,” Baalke said. “We’re still working on it. It’s not something that’s going to get done yesterday. It’ll take some time to resolve. It’s our intention to have Frank back.” Gore made $6.45 million each of the past two seasons. The 49ers are not expected to offer him that much this season. Also, Gore could see less playing time with Carlos Hyde expected to take on a greater role. The Colts and Bills have been mentioned as possible suitors if Gore tests free agency.
