The Facts: Before Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones arrived at the Scouting Combine, the talk of the offseason has been the situation with Bryant and DeMarco Murray - two of the Cowboys star players who are impending free agents. Jones is planning to meet with Murray's representative this week, but expressed uncertainty about having a sit-down with Tom Condon, one of Bryant's agents and a big power broker in the NFL. "We haven't gone that far," Jones said.
Diehards Line:As the Morning News suggested, this was interesting an interesting bit of information and indicated the Cowboys are leaning towards applying the franchise tag to Bryant - speculation Jones didn't attempt to squash. "Right now all things being equal, it's leaning more Dez with the franchise than it is not," Jones said. "But that doesn't mean it will stay that way. ..." Indeed, slapping the franchise tag on Bryant would extend the window to hammer out a lengthier contract with the receiver and give the Cowboys a better idea of how they would structure a deal with Murray. Will Bryant see it that way? In response to a tweet on his verified Twitter account, Bryant replied to a follower commending the WR's dedication to the Cowboys by saying: "I wish they felt the same way but it's cool. It's #business." In addition, ESPN's Ed Werder reports the franchise tag would prompt Bryant to skip off-season workouts. ... Stay tuned.
