The Facts: Vick did enough Sunday to earn a second start with the New York Jets. Rex Ryan announced after the team's 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs that Vick will start in Week 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. "He'll start next week as long as he's healthy," the coach said in a postgame news conference.
Diehards Line:
Vick provided the Jets with a rarity Sunday: a calamity-free afternoon at the quarterback position. Vick finished 21 of 28 for 196 yards and one touchdown. Most importantly, he didn't commit a turnover. Vick suffered a head injury in the fourth quarter, but missed just one series. He was replaced by Matt Simms, a practice-squad player who moved up the depth chart after Geno Smith was declared inactive with a shoulder injury. Vick's turnover-free performance was good enough for Ryan to make a quick decision at the position. As NFL.com suggests, it tells you a lot about what Ryan thinks of Smith, and also what the coach perceives as an effective performance for a Jets team that's now lost eight straight.
