The Facts: Bortles showed improvement in Saturday's second and final practice of rookie mini-camp. HC Gus Bradley stuck with the same script from Friday's workout, wanting to see his young players compete at a faster pace. It worked. "We were trying to speed everything up and make it faster," Bortles said. "That will come with time. We're still learning and getting acclimated, but things were faster today and they'll need to be faster the next time we go out there."
Diehards Line:According to Times-Union staffer Hays Carlyon, Bortles, the third-overall pick in the NFL Draft, did a nice job of holding the safety with his eyes and then throwing away from him to an open receiver throughout the practice. He also showed good pocket movement and the ability to roll outside the pocket quickly. Bradley was also pleased that Bortles shook off a couple miscues early. Bortles' ability to respond positively from a mistake at Central Florida was something that attracted the Jaguars to him in the draft process. "We knew he had some things that we needed to develop," Bradley said. "But his leadership and the flashes that we are seeing are great about him." Fantasy football owners shouldn't expect Bortles to jump into the starting lineup right away, but Dynasty owners shouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on him.
