The Facts: The grievance hearing concerning the franchise tag designation of Graham will take place in about a month, general manager Mickey Loomis said Saturday afternoon.
Diehards Line:
The NFLPA recently filed the grievance on Graham's behalf to argue that Graham should receive compensation under the franchise tag as a wide receiver, which is worth $12.3 million in 2014, rather than as a tight end, which is worth $7 million. The result of the grievance hearing is the lynchpin to the contract talks as the winner will hold a massive edge in negotiations. Loomis knew they would happen eventually saying Thursday to WWL-AM, "No hard feelings. ... Look, it's a negotiation." Both sides can hammer out a long-term contract before the grievance hearing or before a decision is levied from the hearing. The Saints and Graham have until July 15 to complete a long-term contract. If there's no deal, Graham can only play for the franchise tag in 2014 or holdout.
