The Facts: Over the last couple of months, the Cowboys have leaked information in dribs and drabs about Romo’s progress in his recovery from surgery that repaired a herniated disk he suffered last December while maintaining an optimistic outlook about the 34-year-old quarterback’s future. “We know his back is everything we would want it to be at this time,” owner Jerry Jones proclaimed. “We feel very strong about the edge our quarterback gives us and it a great place to build.” HC Jason Garrett went so far as to declare that Romo is in the “prime of his career.”
Diehards Line:
Garrett and the coaches were on the field with the players Tuesday for the first time this year, as the second phase of the off-season program started this week. According to Morning News staffer Rainer Sabin, Garrett watched as Romo spent the day doing what a quarterback typically does. He dropped back. He threw passes. Garrett added more praise: “He moves around really well. He hasn’t lost any mobility, ability to get away from people. I think his arm is better than ever, so we don’t look at him despite his back situation that he’s had over the last couple of years as somebody who is an old player by any means. He simply needs to rehab his back and get himself healthy and get going again.”
