The Facts: It was 20 years ago that Bob Kraft was approved as the new owner of the struggling Patriots. Since then much has changed, including the philosophy that allowed him to ignore the many red flags associated with former tight end Aaron Hernandez before and after he was drafted. Because of all Kraft has learned, you can be sure of one thing: Britt will not be walking through that door."We won’t be signing him,” Kraft said Monday at the annual NFL owners meetings. “That won’t happen.”
Diehards Line:
Britt was brought in for a visit a few weeks ago as a possible answer to the Patriots’ long-standing deep-threat problem. In his five years with the Titans since being a first-round pick in 2009, Britt has averaged 15.6 yards a catch and nearly two run-ins with the law per season. It’s the latter that was the sticking point with Kraft, primarily because Britt’s most recent transgression was when he drove a close friend to the Jersey City Medical Center with stab wounds on Jan. 13, 2013, and then refused to cooperate with police investigating the matter. Obviously a touchy area for the Patriots -- an area the Rams seem much less worried about.
