The Facts: With wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Jones back in Baltimore and out of the picture for the Giants, it’s on to the next one. In this case, that appears to be Ginn. The Giants have turned their attention to the Panthers free agent after missing out on Jones.
Diehards Line:Like Jones, Ginn also serves multiple purposes. He’s a speedy No. 3 or 4 wide receiver who also returns punts and kicks. The 28-year-old Ohio State product caught 36 passes for 556 yards and five touchdowns this past season in Carolina. He had a healthy 15.4 yards per reception. Ginn also averaged 23.8 yards per kickoff return and 12.2 on punts. He was sixth in the NFL on punt returns and 16th on kickoffs. The Giants didn’t have anyone in the Top 20 of either category. As Star-Ledger staffer Jordan Raanan suggests, it was clear to anyone that watched the Giants last season that the return game needed to be upgraded. Ginn would fit the bill.
