The Facts: According to beat writer Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, it "wouldn't be a shock" if the Rams didn't match offers for Amendola, a restricted free agent.
Diehards Line:Amendola has been an effective slot receiver but missed considerable time last year with an elbow injury. Tom Curran of CSNNE.com recently speculated that the Patriots might have interest in Amendola, who was spotted at a Boston bar called "The Place," last night. Boston Herald staffer Ian Rapoport contacted Amendola's agent, who would neither confirm nor deny a visit with the Patriots. But Rapoport also noted that Amendola has family in Boston and ESPN's Mike Reiss reports the receiver was in town for a funeral. Still, with contract talks with franchise free agent Wes Welker on hold, people have taken notice. Rapoport asked a Patriots source about a possible connection and the source told him "nice try. ..." As previously noted, the Patriots are also scheduled to host free agent Anthony Gonzalez, another slot receiver, on Friday night.
