The Facts: The Chiefs appeared to make their decision among their top two potential free agents Monday when they signed veteran CB Stanford Routt to a three-year contract worth almost $20 million. He is guaranteed $6 million in 2012. The move probably means the Chiefs have opted to keep Bowe, rather than starting CB Brandon Carr.
Diehards Line:
Bowe and Carr are potential free agents and unless the Chiefs could sign one or the other by the start of free agency on March 13, they faced the likelihood of losing one of them. The prospects of signing either player by next month appeared unlikely, so the Chiefs moved to replace Carr by signing Routt. That being the case, Star staffer Adam Teicher believes the Chiefs consider Bowe, 27, would be more difficult to replace. He was the Chiefs’ leading pass receiver the past three seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2010 after his 72-catch, 15-touchdown season. From a Fantasy perspective, it definitely makes sense. It's would certainly be good news for Matt Cassel, assuming he retains the starting QB job.
