The Facts: The Bengals signed four-year Ohio State kicker Aaron Pettrey after he won a derby with two others at rainy Paul Brown Stadium.
Diehards Line:Pettrey will replace Mike Nugent, who was placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury suffered in Sunday's loss tio the Colts. Pettrey is a rookie who signed with Carolina as a free agent after the draft. After the Panthers cut him, he hooked on with Detroit for the preseason and was cut the day after he missed his only field-goal try, a 42-yarder against Pittsburgh. He beat out Shane Andrus and Hunter Lawrence in Tuesday's workout. Pettrey hit 74.3 percent of his field-goal attempts in college (29-for-39) and last season led the Big Ten with 72 points and 14 field goals.
