The Facts: On Friday, word came down that Cowboys coaches and officials at the NFL Scouting Combine would not be allowed to speak to reporters on any subject. Late Saturday at a downtown hotel, owner Jerry Jones explained his gag order to a small group of media members. Jones is incensed with the information that’s leaked out of the team’s walls in recent months.
Diehards Line:According to Sporting News staffer Albert Breer, Jones specifically said he was angry over two recent reports. First, he denied ever having players over to his home to discuss Terrell Owens’ future with the team. Second, he refuted the report that he and his son, COO Stephen Jones, were debating the subject and that the son was trying convince his father to cut Owens. His denials come despite considerable reporting to the contrary. Still, Jones emphasized that he’s the only person in the organization with the “full picture” of what was happening at team headquarters. So he said he believed the best course of action was to hush the rest of the organization for the time being, since others lacked the perspective and the power he has.
