Eagles radio analyst Mike Quick seemed taken aback yesterday by how quickly word spread among fans and reporters after he told former teammate Garry Cobb, on Cobb's blog, that he thinks the Eagles will make a major deal for a wideout this week, possibly for Williams.

Quick told the Daily News he hadn't uncovered any top-secret memos or anything, he was basing his feeling on the fact that the Eagles seem to have assured quarterback Donovan McNabb that his call for playmakers won't go unanswered, yet they haven't added any to his offensive arsenal. Lions GM Matt Millen and coach Rod Marinelli spoke to Detroit-area reporters yesterday and reiterated that Williams would not be traded as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
