While Carson's Palmer's uncertain future with the club had many pundits suggesting a QB with this pick, Cincinnati needed a young playmaker who can stretch the field because Chad Ochocinco, Jerome Simpson and Andre Caldwell are all entering the final year of their contracts. The Bengals haven't drafted a receiver in the first round since 2000 but they have squandered nearly $25 million in free agency the last two years in trying to find someone to line up opposite Ochocinco. Now they'll take a different approach. According to his
NFL.com scouting report, Green is one of the finest receiver prospects in the last few years. Has the ideal length, refined route-running skills, hands, and big-play ability to become one of the league's top players at the position. Displays tremendous acceleration and fluidity for a taller player. Is a consistent vertical threat because of his outstanding combination of deep speed, height, ball skills and leaping ability. Was suspended once by NCAA but character appears to be solid.
