John Harbaugh signed a three-year contract extension today after guiding the Baltimore Ravens to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons as HC. He's now under contract through the 2014 season. "Having John increases our opportunity to compete for the NFL championship every year, which is our goal," team president Dick Cass said.

Harbaugh joined Dennis Green, Bill Cowher and Barry Switzer as the only coaches to accomplish that feat. Harbaugh's financial terms are currently undisclosed, but he was making as much as $2.5 million annually on his original deal. It's believed his new deal is patterned after Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's contract, which averages nearly $4 million. ... Harbaugh has built a 32-16 record in the regular season. He has won four of seven career playoff games.
