Palmer, 61, spent last season as head coach of the United Football League’s Hartford franchise, guiding the Colonials to a 3-5 record. He has a 20-year NFL coaching history, including stints with the Giants, Cowboys, Texans, Browns, Patriots, Jaguars and Oilers. He was head coach of the Browns during their first two seasons back in Cleveland, posting a 5-27 record in 1999 and 2000. Palmer served as offensive coordinator for the Jaguars in 1997-98 and the Texans from 2001-05. His most recent NFL work was with the Giants, where he served as quarterbacks coach from 2007-09 and earned a Super Bowl ring when the Giants defeated New England in Super Bowl XLII. Palmer has worked with a number of young quarterbacks in his career, including Eli Manning, Tony Romo and David Carr among others. The Titans had earlier sought permission to speak with New York Jets offensive line coach/assistant head coach Bill Callahan and Chicago offensive line coach Mike Tice, but were denied both times.
