Welker is going to be an full participant when training camp begins on Thursday, the 98.5 The SportsHub reported a short time ago. Based on his efforts during mini-camp, the news isn’t necessarily surprising, although given the usual recovery time from reconstructive ACL surgery, it’s rather stunning.

According to the report, Welker still needs to be cleared during a physical next week. ... Meanwhile, as Boston Herald staffer Ian Rapoport explained, the significance lies more on the fact that if true, the Pats are foregoing the option of starting Welker out on the Active PUP list, which would keep several options open. If the Patriots are comfortable enough with Welker’s status for him to be able to start the season as an active player, it's a pretty big deal. Stay tuned.
