Wes Welker Unlikely To Be Pushed In Camp
(7/25 12:35 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on a previous item. ... Globe staffer Albert Breer, citing an unnamed NFL source, confirms that Welker is fully expected to pass his physical next week and is prepared to participate in all drills. Reported by the Boston Globe

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Breer went on to point out that's not to say the Patriots won't pace him, or play it safe in the early parts of camp. It is to say that he's full go now, and is ready to play. Indeed, as ESPN.com's Mike Reiss (via Profootballtalk.com) suggested during an ESPNews appearance, HC Bill Belichick may think it makes more sense to play it safe with Welker and keep him out of some drills that could tax his surgically repaired knee even if the medical staff says Welker is ready to go. The thinking is that Belichick is a lot more concerned about having Welker on the field for Week 1 of the regular season than he is about having Welker on the field for Day 1 of training camp. Remember: The fact that Welker might be ready for Week 1 -- just nine months after suffering a torn ACL -- and eight months after reconstructive surgery to repair it -- is no mean feat. ... Stay tuned. We'll continue to follow this one.
