Conflicting Report On Wes Welker Surfaces
(7/25 3:42 PT)

The Facts:
Following up on the ongoing story. ... While multiple reports over the last 24 hours have indicated that Welker is expected to be cleared to begin training camp Thursday as a "full participant," earlier tonight, a source close to the situation wasn’t quite as definitive with Welker’s status, telling the Herald it was more likely the wide receiver would start camp on the “Active PUP” list as a precaution.  Reported by the Boston Herald

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
Per the Herald, the ultimate decision would still be subject to the evaluation by the medical staff prior to camp. In other words, the inclination is to start him on the PUP list, but there is still a possibility he could dodge it based on what the Patriot doctors report and how HC Bill Belichick feels putting all the information together. Remember: If Welker opens camp on the active list it means the Patriots forgo the ability to put him on the “Reserve PUP” list down the road, losing the opportunity to hold his roster spot for the first six weeks of the season. They would surrender that protection because a player must be on Active PUP in order to be considered for the Reserve PUP. ... According to the Herald, the Pats haven’t etched anything in stone just yet with regard to Welker. If anything, they are leaning more toward the PUP list at this point. Fortunately, we'll get resolution this coming week.
