The Facts:
Following a TMZ report that Owens was "very close" to signing, a source close to the situation told PFT that it wasn't true. Carson Palmer reportedly hopes that changes soon. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Palmer and Owens have been working out regularly together in California, and Palmer has been "highly impressed." The quarterback reportedly told the Bengals that Owens could be an asset to the team.

While Cincinnati Enquirer staffer Joe Reedy corroborated (with two sources) that the Bengals aren't "close" to signing T.O., there does seem to be a lot of smoke here. ... Worth noting: ESPN insider Chris Mortensen advised his Twitter followers that Antonio Bryant's knee has been problematic this offseason -- although Mort didn't offer much in the way of details. You have to believe the Bengals were aware of Bryant's issues when signing. Still, Bryant's tender knee and Matt Jones' failure to impress in recent mini-camp workouts -- combined with Palmer's lobbying -- make the situation worth watching.
