an ongoing story. ... A league source tells PFT's Mike Florio that Johnson signed the deal on Thursday. The contract will pay Johnson more money this season by accelerating some escalators that he had unlocked for future seasons.

Before agreeing to the new deal, Johnson had been playing under a five-year, $12 million contract that was signed before his rookie season. Johnson has already reached escalators in that contract that would have paid him up to an additional $2.5 million in salary in 2012. Some of that money will now be used for a signing bonus for 2010.
