Following up on the ongoing story. ... Favre, who underwent ankle surgery in late May, said Tuesday that he and HC Brad Childress did not discuss a timetable for a decision on the QB's return during the coach's visit to Mississippi on Monday. "The deadline? I don't know," Favre said. "There obviously comes a point where you've probably gone too far, where you just have to move on. He hopes I make the right decision for myself -- one way or the other. ..."

Favre went on to stress he has not reached a final decision. The reason: His ankle has not responded the way he thought it might. "After almost nine weeks, it's not where I would like it to be, but I'm working at it," he said. "Maybe it never gets to where I want it to be. Forty years old. ... Three surgeries. ... That's all you need to know. ..." Favre, of course, is fully aware there's more than all involved need to know. The Vikings open camp July 30. Their season opener is Sept. 9 in New Orleans. At some point we need him to state his intentions. ... In a related note: Favre had no comment regarding a Men's Journal story that quoted his agent, Bus Cook, as being angry for the QB previously discussing his need for ankle surgery with ESPN. Cook called Favre a "drama queen. ..." We'll suggest that's as close to the truth as Cook has come in discussing Favre in many years.
