The Jets have signed offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to a contract extension and he will stay with the club, someone with knowledge of the situation said today. Schottenheime had one year left on a contract that paid him roughly $1.5 million this upcoming season. It's believed he received a two-year extension that'll bump his salary to nearly $2 million in 2009.

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
For what it's worth, Star-Ledger staffer Dave Hutchinson suggests that Schottenheimer's decision to stay bodes well for the possible return of quarterback Brett Favre, but the 39-year-old veteran is still said to be leaning towards retirement. Even though Schottenheimer had to change nearly his entire offense with the arrival of Favre two weeks into training camp, the Jets still scored 405 points this past season, the third-most in club history.
