The Facts:
Brian Schottenheimer met Thursday with new head coach Rex Ryan and owner Woody Johnson, informing them he was planning to accept the offer to remain on as the team's offensive coordinator, according to a league source. An official announcement could be made as soon as today. "I believe he's going to stay," Johnson told ESPN Radio shortly after his meeting with Schottenheimer. "I believe he thinks this is the best thing. He's excited about being here. We're excited to have him."

Fantasy Football Diehards Line:
As Daily News staffer Rich Cimini suggests, this is a big deal for the Jets, who gave Schottenheimer strong consideration for their head-coaching vacancy. Once they settled on Ryan, their goal was to keep Schottenheimer to maintain continuity on offense -- a coaching daily double, so to speak. Schottenheimer, under contract for 2009, likely will receive an extension.
